How to play |
|
The object is to throw and
successfully catch the ball as many times as possible in a one minute time
frame. Just choose one of the nine challenges listed below, decide which
level you want to play at, set up your net and start the timer!
All nine 1 Minute Challenges are
designed to develop a wide range of skills, with some focusing on key
skill areas. Some challenges suggest introducing different ball types as a
variation. You could use a football, hockey ball or rugby ball (ensure
rugby ball is passed with feet side on). |

Understanding the Challenge Levels |
|
The 1 Minute Crazy Catch Challenge is designed
to test players of all levels.
Beginners:
Levels 1-2 focus on the fundamental motor skills of throwing, catching,
quickly transforming from catch to throw, and coordination. These are key
skills required for successful participation in almost all ball sports.
Elite Athlete: Level 3 uses the unpredictable Insane side, developing
advanced skills and helping the player prepare for the unpredictability of
match day. This incorporates complex skills associated with reflexes,
reaction, early ball flight path detection, coordination and mobility.
Fitness is also improved when completing a range of challenges with 1
minute intervals in between. |

Skills Assessment |
|
The 1 Minute Challenge enables assessment of
the visual and coordination skills associated with throwing and catching a
ball. It provides instant feedback on players skill level, and can be used
by 3 year old beginners through to elite athletes. |
|
The basic motor skills being measured are: |
|
- The speed and accuracy of various forms of
throwing (two handed, underarm, overarm)
|
|
- Catching |
|
- Speed of transition from catching to
throwing |
|
These skills are important fundamental motor
skills essential for participation in a wide range of ball sports.
|
|
Advanced Skills: |
|
With
the higher levels, the use of the Insane side and the introduction of
mobility activities introduces a wide range of advanced skills: |
|
-
Reflex |
|
-
Reaction |
|
-
Coordination |
|
-
Mobility |
|
-
Complex visual |
|
These skills are required in most ball sports to compete at the highest
level on match day. |
|
We have developed assessment criteria for ages 5-16+ years for each Level
